Energy is the essence of life.
Every day you decide how you’re going to use it by knowing what you want and what it takes to reach that goal, and by maintaining focus. Here are some tips on how to be more productive in the time you have:
1. Manage your mood. Emotional swings drain energy. Stay even, consistent and focused. Eliminate annoying distractions by creating a productivity-friendly environment.
2. Don’t check email in the morning. Don’t give away the power of setting the tone for your day to other people. If you get a negative email in the morning, that will start your day off with an energy drain.
3. Before you try to do it faster, ask whether it should be done at all. How many things are you doing that don’t really need to be done? Focus on the vital few and eliminate or delegate the trivial many.
4. Focus on nothing more than eliminating distractions. Be singular in purpose. Jim Rohn used to say, “wherever you are, be there.” That’s great advise, simple yet profound.
5. Have a personal system. Don’t go through the day (or your life) just winging it by how you feel at the time. Have a system for working that maximizes your abilities and time.
6. Define the day’s goals the night before. Don’t start your day off asking, “What am I going to do today?” That is NOT the way to be productive. Plan your day out ahead of time and have specific goals for the day.
Productivity is related to how you feel. You want to feel busy but not rushed. This is when you are happiest and get the most done.
